ROOKIE LEAUGE
K-2nd Grade Rules

·       First Team listed on the schedule will always wear White.

·       5 vs 5 format, no forfeits, teams may combine players to start play. For everyone’s safety please inform parents or spectators to not cross the court while the game is in progress.

·       Wristbands will be provided to help players know which person they need to guard. Players should be matched up with someone who is roughly their size. If there is a screen, then players can switch who they guard but must switch back at the first opportunity.

·       8-foot rim. 2nd Grade will play on a 10 foot rim.

·       Smaller ball size: 27.5

·       Four 8-minute quarters will be played with a running clock and a 3-minute half time. The first 15-20 minutes of the scheduled hour will be used for practice. From there, the home team will inbound the ball at half court to start play. All subsequent quarters of the game will be decided by alternating possession.

·       Every player will play at least 50% of every game. Thus, every 4 minutes a sub call will be in place.

·       The league is officiated with a do-over policy. As a referee makes a call, they will have the player try again using the correct principles. This will emphasize correcting mistakes instead of the mistake itself.

·       No zone defenses. Only man to man defense will be played and no double teaming.

·       There will be no Free Throws. All fouls will result in the ball being taken out of bounds.

·       No full court presses. Teams on defense cannot begin guarding until the half line.

·       Players may intercept a pass or a shot, but there will be no stealing the ball while an offensive player possesses it.

·       Blocking shots is allowed. The offensive players arms must be going up for a shot so that it does not result in a player stealing it out of other players hands.

·       All players must be registered with Morgan County Recreation before they are allowed to play.

·       Scores will not be kept as this is a way for players to learn new skills.

·       All players and teams must show good sportsmanship.

·       Recreation staff can remove anyone in the vicinity that does not conduct themselves in a good sportsmanship type manner.
